Yordan Silvera was born in Havana, Cuba on March 31, 1985. He was the first and only male child in his family. At the age of 5, he entered the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Elementary School where he won art competitions and demonstrated his passion for the arts. When he was 12, he entered the Julio Antonio Mella Middle School where he pursued his interests as an artist and won many art competitions in Havana. He also served as an art teacher’s assistant in the school art department, helping art teachers and giving art classes to other students in his age group. At this time he also decided that visual arts would be his main goal in life. & 8232;After 9th grade, he applied to enter the Cuban National Academy of the Art, San Alejandro, but he was not admitted. The admission process was very difficult because only 25 students were admitted each year and he was still quite young and inexperienced. As a result, he found that he had many things yet to learn and this amplified his interest in the arts. To accomplish this, he entered the Arts and Craft School, Pablo de la Torrioente Brau to better prepare himself for the San Alejandro’s admission process the next year.
