On occasion of the Olympic Games, all eyes are on London. The city, which shows off its finery to welcome athletes from around the world, is also the epicenter of numerous exhibitions:
The National Gallery presents Metamorphosis: Titian 2012, which will see a range of contemporary artists – including choreographers, composers, poets and visual artists respond to paintings by Renaissance master Titian. Their work will be displayed at the National Gallery and performed at the Royal Opera House by The Royal Ballet.
The Tate Modern hosts Edvard Munch. The Modern Eye, an exhibition with almost 140 of his works, including some 60 paintings, 30 works on paper and 50 vintage photographs. The show also reunites a number of films and one of the artist's very rare sculptures, Edvard Munch, l'oeil modern, which throws new light on the work of this celebrated Norwegian painter (1863-1944) by showing how his interest in all the forms of representation.
To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the National Portrait Gallery hosts The Queen Art & Image, a landmark exhibition that brings together some of the most remarkable and resonant images of Elizabeth II made during her reign.
Finally, the Tate Britain explores the capital city through the eyes of some of the biggest names in international photography. In the years between 1930 and 1980, some of the best-known photographers from around the world came to London to make work about the city and its communities. Bringing together 180 classic twentieth-century photographs, Another London highlights the vibrancy of the city as a dynamic metropolis, richly diverse and full of contrast.
