Integraba el contingente de voluntarias destinadss a la retaguardia, durante las campañas bélicas del período emancipacionista. No hay registro que testimonie su intervención armada en las batallas, aunque se conjetura su presencia en las "montoneras" de Manuel Rodríguez (1814-1817).
En más de alguna ocasión debieron hacer también uso de las armas.
