In short, it takes care of everything so that you can focus on creating.

Before selling

Which original artworks can I sell through Artelista?
You can sell the following original artworks: paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, collages, digital art and crafts.
How to upload artworks
Artists upload their artworks from their own account. Log in to your account and click the “Upload artwork” button.

The artwork form opens, where you add the image and its details. The required fields are marked and you have to complete them to be able to put it up for sale.

If you want to sell prints, we recommend uploading an image of at least 3 megapixels.
How to edit artworks data
You can change any detail of an artwork (price, technique, availability, tags and so on) from the My artworks section of your account.

There you have the list of all your artworks. Click on the one you want to edit and the form opens with every option, including the print ones. From that same list you can delete artworks, sort them and group them into collections.
Watermark
Artelista has its own watermark and you will be able to add it to all your artworks to protect them against copies and plagiarism. Personal watermarks are not allowed.
Image quality for prints
We recommend uploading photographs of at least 3 megapixels. It is not a hard minimum, the actual technical requirement is 473 pixels on the short side, but the more resolution the image has, the larger the print size and its sale price can be. When you publish the artwork we tell you which print sizes your photograph allows. Visit our photography tutorial to get the most out of it.

To sell prints you need to upload a high quality image of the artwork.

If it is a new artwork, upload the image and fill in the form, and in the prints section tick that you want to sell them and choose the price level. If it is an artwork you already had, open it from My artworks and do the same, replacing the image first if the current one does not have enough resolution.

The original image is never shown on the website, only reduced versions are published. The high quality file is stored and protected in our storage.

If I do not want to sell through Artelista, can I just exhibit my work?
Every artist can exhibit and sell their original artworks and their prints, but if you would rather only exhibit, you do not have to put them up for sale.

You can decide artwork by artwork from each form, in the My artworks section of your account.
Can I upload to Artelista the artworks that are already sold?
You can include on Artelista as many artworks as you want, it does not matter if they are sold. If the artwork you want to include is already sold, you can upload it providing that you inform of its status. Moreover, if you have a high-quality image of the artwork and you own the rights of reproduction, you can sell prints.
The artwork is temporarily unavailable.
If you do not have immediate access to an artwork, you can mark it as unavailable from its form, in the My artworks section of your account.

That way it stays on display but cannot be bought until you mark it as available again.
Availability of the artworks put up for sale
In order to guarantee the online sale of original works, it is important you can have access to the artworks offered for sale within a period of less than 72 hours after receiving the sales confirmation e-mail. If there is a work that can not be available in less than 72 hours, you will have to mark it as "Not available" or "Sold". The breach of this obligation is considered very serious by Artelista and may result in the artist's withdrawal from Artelista.

During the sale

How do I know that my artworks have been sold?
The moment a sale happens we send you an email with the artwork sold, the details of the order and the steps to follow.

You have all of that in the Sales section of your account, under Transactions.
How prints are delivered?
We will send you an email when a customer buys a print. Artelista will produce the print and send it directly to the customer.

Preparing the shipment

What steps do I have to follow when I sell an artwork?
These are the steps from the sale to the moment the carrier picks the parcel up. Mark each status in your sales as you go.

1. Check the artwork. That it is in perfect condition and that the size and the technique are the ones you published. If something does not match, open an issue from the Sales section of your account before you pack it.

2. Pack it for the journey. Protect the surface, reinforce the corners and use a rigid box, or a tube if it travels rolled. You have the step by step with photos in the shipping tutorial.

3. Include the certificate of authenticity. Download it from the sale, sign it and keep it inside the parcel, next to the artwork.

4. Stick the outside sign on. It warns that the content is fragile and says which side goes up. Download it, print it and stick it on the outside of the parcel.

5. Mark it as ready with a photo of the parcel. Press “Mark as ready” on the sale and attach one or more photos of the closed parcel, with the outside sign visible, stating its measurements. We validate the shipment with them.

6. We arrange the pickup. Once we validate the parcel we tell you the day and the carrier (DHL, UPS or FedEx). If none of them can collect it, we tell you how to send it by post.
How do I have to pack the artwork?
In each sale we tell you the type of packaging, because it depends on the discipline of the artwork and on the destination. The step by step and the documents you need are in the shipping tutorial, and it is important to follow it to avoid damage in transit or problems caused by missing documentation.

Stretched: the artwork travels mounted, in a rigid box. This is the usual option for paintings when the buyer is in your own country or when you are both in the European Union.
Rolled: the artwork travels rolled up in a tube. This is the usual option for paintings on canvas when the shipment goes outside that area, and always for prints on canvas. If you have more than one artwork in the same order, try to pack them together. If the artwork cannot be rolled, write to us before preparing it.
Flat: works on paper such as drawings, engravings, photographs or collages, between rigid boards.
Crated: sculpture, pottery and handicrafts, which need a box built to measure.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA)?
The Certificate of Authenticity or COA is a document issued by Artelista for every artwork put up for sale on the website. The document certifies the originality of the artworks sold through Artelista. Every time you sell an artwork, you will have to print the document and send it signed in the package with the artwork as it is explained in the shipping tutorial. In the case of prints, we issue and send the certificate directly to the customer.
What is the outside sign?
It is a sign that you print and stick on the outside of the parcel. It warns the carrier that the contents are fragile and shows which side goes up, the two most frequent causes of damage in transit. It is the same for every artwork, so you can download it here or find it in each sale, next to the Certificate of Authenticity.
Where is the original artwork sent?
The artwork is sent directly to the customer’s home according to the requirements of the Artwork shipping tutorial
Does Artelista send the original artwork?
Artelista handles the shipment if the country of origin or destination is Spain. If there is a different situation with your order, Artelista will give you instructions on how to send the work.
How does an export work?
Those shipments which are treated as exports are those shipments in which the origin and destination country do not belong to a common economic space (EU, NAFTA, etc.). In this case, the artist is the exporter and the customer is the importer. Artelista will advise you on the documents required to manage the shipment. It is your responsibility to obtain and manage the export documents.
If I have sold an original artwork, what do I have to do?
Go to the Sales section of your account and open the order to see the details and the steps.

First confirm that you have the artwork available and that you are starting to prepare the shipment. Then pack the artwork following the shipping tutorial, print the Certificate of Authenticity, sign it, put it inside the parcel and, once it is closed, mark it as ready in the order attaching a photo of the parcel and its measurements.

You have 72 hours to pack the artwork and leave it ready. As soon as we validate the parcel we arrange the collection with one of our carriers, and if none of them can do it in your case, we tell you how to ship it. In every case Artelista pays for the shipping, so you do not need to take it into account when pricing your artwork.

After the sale

What is the payment guarantee?
Once the work is delivered to the customer, Artelista will make you the payment of your margin 14 days after that. This period is stated as the time the customer has to cancel the order and ask for a refund. Artelista guarantees payment once you accept the artist’s contract.
Which currency do I get paid in?
You are paid for your sales in euros and the amount reaches your bank account through Stripe, our payment platform.

If your account is in another currency, Stripe converts it when sending you the money and applies its exchange rate, so the final amount may differ slightly from the one you see in your sales.
Is VAT retained on the artist’s margin when selling prints?
Taxes will be applied in accordance with current Spanish regulations depending on the artist’s country of residence for artists who do not live in Spain. The artist can deduct these taxes when filling the tax return. For artists living in Spain, VAT will be applied to the artist’s margin and taxes will be deducted in accordance with current regulations.
If my artwork gets damaged in transit, will I receive my share of the selling?
All the artworks are sent with an all-risk insurance. If the artwork gets damaged during the shipment, Artelista will pay you your margin of the selling after the payment of the insurance company.
What happens if the customer returns the artwork?
The customer can return an artwork within 14 days after its reception. If the customer returns an original artwork, we will send it back to you at no cost. We will refund the money to the customer if the artwork is in perfect conditions.
