Artificial Flowers — A Trace of Bloom
Gela Mikava Verified artist
Artwork details
A slender green stem and fragments of pink bloom emerge from a narrow band of layered paper and paint. Around them, expansive fields of turquoise, blue and smoky violet create an atmosphere in which the flower appears both preserved and on the verge of disappearance. Exposed paper edges, broken surfaces and loose dark lines make the process of construction and erasure visible.
Painted on Soviet-era cotton fabric, this work brings the material history of an everyday textile into dialogue with the fragile image of a flower.
Part of the Artificial Flowers series, the painting explores what remains of beauty after endless reproduction and decoration. The flower exists between a living form, a decorative symbol and an emotional trace. Its fragmented presence invites a sustained encounter with memory, absence and the persistence of an image.
