Artwork details
This drawing shows a majestic lion in the savannah. The lion dominates the foreground. It is captured in a powerful, forward-striding pose that emphasises its muscular stature and elegant movement. The lion's characteristic mane is worked out in particular detail, with fine strokes that convey the texture and fullness of its fur. The lion's body is rendered in softer shades, emphasising its lithe strength. The upper part of the picture shows an implied sky, while the lower part depicts the ground on which the lion strides. The drawing is characterised by its subtle shades of grey, ranging from almost white areas to darker shades. This technique adds depth and dimension to the image. Overall, the drawing conveys a sense of strength, dignity and natural beauty.
