This oil painting shows a peaceful scene in the African savannah. In the foreground you can see a family of lions on an expansive green grassy area. A male lion stands in the centre and is surrounded by several smaller lion cubs. Some of the cubs are playing nearby, while others are standing close to the adult lion. The background of the picture shows a typical savannah landscape with gently rising green hills. Scattered trees and bushes can be seen, including a striking thin tree in the centre of the picture. The sky is a light blue colour, which contrasts beautifully with the green tones of the landscape.
