Descripción de la obra

This artwork depicts a parent–child dynamic that is common in real life yet often overlooked. When a mother, out of fear, loneliness, or over-investment, holds onto her child too tightly—treating “giving” as love and “control” as care—the emotional umbilical cord that once symbolized connection can slowly turn into an invisible shackle.

Growing up in such an environment, the son becomes accustomed to dependence and has few chances to make decisions, take responsibility, or truly care for himself. It is as if he is confined in an unseen room, his body maturing while his inner self remains unable to complete the step toward independence. In psychology, the term “adult baby” is used to describe this delayed maturity—not as an insult to a person, but as a metaphor for a relational pattern.

The mother is not acting out of malice. Within this dynamic, she receives a sense of being needed, a feeling of purpose, and self-validation from believing “I gave everything.” Holding her “creation”—a son she both protected and confined—she leaves with a sense of satisfaction, unaware that this excessive love has taken away the space he needed to grow.

This pattern is widespread and can be passed from generation to generation: dependency, control, being controlled, fear of independence, fear of responsibility… It brings helplessness and sorrow, affecting the individual, relationships, self-worth, marriage, and even the next generation.

This artwork does not aim to criticize, but to invite reflection:

Have we ever been hurt within such a dynamic?
Have we unknowingly repeated certain patterns?
Are we willing to notice these emotional bonds and gently loosen them?

When we view these roles with understanding and compassion, we can avoid becoming the next “adult baby,” and gain strength to support those who are struggling with dependency. Awareness is the first step toward change; gentle understanding is where independence and growth begin.
