BIOGRAPHY OF RAFA TORREGROSA
RAFA TORREGROSA
I seek beauty in the relationships between colours. Each painting is a new opportunity to discover their mystery.
RAFA TORREGROSA
Algeciras, Spain, 1961.
Rafa Torregrosa is a Spanish painter whose current work revolves around “El misterio de los colores” (The Mystery of Colours), a painting series inspired by his fascination with colour relationships and the expressive possibilities of painting.
His creative process begins with imagining colours and exploring how they can coexist on the same surface to create a beautiful composition. From this initial intuition emerge the shapes, movements and textures that define each painting.
Following an earlier period devoted to figurative painting, his current work freely explores the possibilities of abstraction, although figurative suggestions occasionally emerge in his compositions.
He works primarily with acrylic paint on large cotton canvases, often without stretcher frames. He experiments with gravity, the movement of paint, overlapping colours and the irregularities of the canvas, incorporating both unexpected developments and deliberate artistic decisions into his creative process.
His paintings do not follow a single formal language, nor does he seek to associate his work with any particular artistic movement. Each painting represents a new exploration of the relationships between colour, form and material.
For Rafa Torregrosa, painting is, above all, an experience of freedom, discovery and the pursuit of beauty.
