Tronchón hermitage: Nature in oil

Executed in oil on canvas-mounted board and dated 2015, this work is distinguished by a tactile realism in which the weave of the support accentuates the depth and textures characteristic of the rural summer landscape.

The composition is structured around terraced terrain that rises gradually up the mountainside. In the foreground and middle ground, the earth- and clay-toned shadows of the landforms contrast sharply with vibrant brushstrokes of lime green, yellow, and ochre, capturing direct sunlight on the shrubs and low-growing grass.

Serving as the painting's focal point, a distinctive white, circular building emerges at the top of the hill; featuring a conical roof of reddish tiles and a small adjoining structure, it is the Hermitage of Tronchón, perfectly integrated into the lush forest covering the summit.

A clear, unclouded sky casts a serene luminosity over the entire scene, evoking the atmosphere of peace, silence, and honest observation of nature that defines the artist's plein air work. In the bottom right corner, the signature "Penya-Roja" completes the piece in golden tones set against the shadows of the terrain.
