FLOWERS IN THE GARDEN
Digital pastel painting
A digital painting of various flowers in soft, delicate pastel shades. I was inspired by a photograph I took years ago of a small bouquet of flowers that had grown spontaneously in an urban garden. I painted it directly on my screen-based graphics tablet using the Sketchbook app, employing the digital pastel technique for the flowers and the bushes in the background, which I painted using salt watercolours.
I achieved the delicate, ethereal effect of the flower petals by painting with the digital pen using the arrow-tipped digital pastel. I applied many brushstrokes, blending different shades of pink, lilac, mauve and ivory. This is how I created the texture of the petals, which give the impression of being as light as feathers. I painted the whole thing in a single layer, turning the graphics tablet screen into a digital canvas and painting just as I would on a fabric canvas.
