Artwork details
The painting centers on a sculpted fountain seen from close range: a bearded classical bust of the god Janus, rises above a rounded, ribbed basin, with thin streams of water arcing outward into the lower bowl. Behind it, a courtyard of Moorish-style arches, carved balustrades, and patterned walls frames the scene in layered browns, mauves, and pale stone tones. The brushwork is lively, with thick, textured strokes that sharpen the light on metal, stone, and water. This painting will be shipped inside a tube.
