Artwork details
The Belgian artist explores the boundary between figuration and abstraction here. A female figure stands out elegantly against a turbulent background. Her gaze is pensive. Her posture suggests a serene fragility.
The oil technique allows for a dense, impasto effect. Broad, dynamic brushstrokes structure the composition. Chromatic contrast defines the space. A powdery pink illuminates the upper left, while deep blues anchor the scene.
The woman's body captures the light. Touches of white and icy blue emphasize the curves of her garment. A few bursts of orange emerge in the shadows, adding rhythm to the painting.
This composition plays on the balance of masses. The fluidity of the brushstrokes lends a poetic dimension to the portrait. The canvas blends precise lines with gestural freedom. The work concludes with a discreet signature in the lower right corner.
