This Is Not What I Ordered

The artwork presents a decorative still life enriched with gentle humor. In the foreground, a generously arranged table displays vivid fruits — strawberries, cherries, pears, and pepper — accompanied by a decorative pitcher. The composition is built on saturated color contrasts and a balance between smooth painterly areas and detailed textures.
In the background, rhythmically repeated fish form a symbolic layer that represents desire rather than physical reality.
From behind the table edge appears a ginger cat — the central character of the scene. Despite the abundance of food, its expression conveys restrained, almost offended bewilderment: among all the offerings, the most important item is missing — fish. The work combines decorative still life with playful storytelling, creating a recognizable and warmly ironic portrait of feline character.
