Tribu is a work built around the power of the gaze and the search for identity. The face—close-up and frontal—fills almost the entire space, establishing a direct dialogue with the viewer. It is not merely a portrait; it is a presence.

The intensity of the eyes contrasts with the serenity of the expression. The lines traversing the face—along with deep reds, blacks, greens, and earth tones, and the circular shapes positioned to the side—evoke signs, bonds, and markers of belonging. They act as traces pointing toward memory, origins, and the connections linking each individual to their own tribe.

The combined use of acrylic and oil on canvas allows for an interplay between areas of rapid, expressive brushwork and others that are deeper and more nuanced.

In this way, Asun Glez, in collaboration with Franck Sastre, presents a contemporary figure that seems to question us about our own origins.
