En el primer plano se aprecia un cuerpo de agua que refleja tonos verdosos y azules, rodeado de bloques oscuros que evocan el hielo derritiéndose. A la izquierda, arbustos rojizos y un árbol desnudo contrastan con las delgadas hileras de álamos al fondo, cuyos brotes verdes anuncian la llegada de la primavera.
El cielo despejado, en tonos suaves de azul, aporta serenidad a la escena, sugiriendo el fin del invierno y el despertar de la vida.
