La Coronación Park
Artwork details
For many years, La Coronación Park (named after the Virgin of the Port) in Plasencia was the site of the fairgrounds—a simple, dirt-surfaced area. Years ago, the city council renovated it, transforming it into a park featuring parking facilities (the university is located opposite), a soccer field, bars with outdoor terraces, a children's playground, and a bronze statue of the Virgin of the Port situated in the middle of the central walkway; this statue is a replica of the polychrome original housed in the hermitage located 3.5 km from Plasencia. By carefully pruning the maple trees and training their branches, a massive, umbrella-like canopy of foliage has been created—a feature highly appreciated during the summer months.
