Colors that nourish the Mediterranean soul

Created in 2015 using watercolor on Arches paper, this work pays a lyrical yet precise tribute to the traditional Mediterranean still life, executed with a virtuoso command of transparency, light, and color.

The composition arranges the essential ingredients of the Mediterranean table with impeccable balance:

On the left: A stylized dark-glass wine bottle—its silhouette casting a bold shadow against the back wall—accompanied at its base by two heads of garlic featuring white tones and violet hues.

In the center: A light-colored earthenware plate holding a cluster of ripe, firm-skinned tomatoes in intense shades of red and orange, alongside a green one; crisp highlights reveal the freshness of the fruit.

On the right: A small greenish-glass oil cruet with a red stopper and two slices of rustic bread with airy crumb flank a glass jar filled with rich, golden olive oil; the reflections within demonstrate great technical mastery in the rendering of liquids and transparency.
