The work of Burgos artist José Luis Madrazo Gastaudi (Burgos, 1952), who signs under the pseudonym Taudí, brings together highly colourful compositions along the lines of expressionism and abstraction, at times turning to dreamlike forms.
His creations take on the appearances of the human figure, of animals or of landscapes through an interpretation of reality, of his dreams and of his emotions and concerns. His images often feature lively action, and in them we find singular forms of magicians, guitarists, poets, birds or robots.
Taudí works with acrylic, and that lets him hold in his artworks all the colour he pours out with his brush, leaving reflections and touches full of shine. The intensity of the warm colours he uses so often, among them ochres and terracottas, makes his painting highly attractive and evocative. Qualities that become even stronger when chromatic contrast comes into play.
His artworks give off a source of rhythm and a great expressive force, passing on to each one of them a great dynamism. This happens, for example, in paintings such as Oleaje, in which the painter hints at and merges the movement of the sea's waves with the sky in an atmosphere of visual delight.
In others, such as Arcano or Gesto, the line and the earthy colour used by the artist recall the palette and the expressiveness of Goya, and also bring out a complex mix of feelings. But Goya is not the only one to appear in Taudí's painting, he also pays tribute to Picasso in a portrait where his gaze meets that of the Malaga-born genius. In the same way, he devotes his brushstrokes to the great Joan Miró in a beautiful allegory praising abstract expressionism.
Taudí studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge in Barcelona and earned a degree in Art History from the University of Seville. He has also taken part with his artworks in numerous exhibitions.
