The female universe of Gisela Gaffoglio

A painter of strong expressiveness, the Argentine Gisela Gaffoglio (Buenos Aires, 1966) sets loose in her artwork all the complexity and appeal of the female universe in a real bet on the evocative power of colour.

This liberation comes out of spontaneity. It starts from the unexpected and plays with the ambiguous to find out, at the same time, how far she can go with her creation. And that is how she manages to capture scenes that open the door to poetic, intriguing forms belonging to the world of women.

Gisela Gaffoglio leans over the abyss of freedom without fear and gathers appearances full of expressiveness, reflections and rhythms to explore, in her own way, the female condition, its concerns and its history. She turns that experience into landscapes of dreams, of memories, of cities, of lights and shadows and also of figures that turn, when the eye watches them from a distance, into human likenesses and, other times, blur into captivating patches that move between abstraction and the figurative.

This painting, loaded with colour and passion, takes in the expressionist influence of Egon Schiele, Amedeo Modigliani and the taste of Gustav Klimt. She also uses various pictorial techniques and materials that let her better portray each gesture, mood or situation of the world of women. A setting the artist manages to bring to her canvases, conveying all the beauty, sensuality and delicacy that belong to it.

Since she was little, Gisela Gaffoglio has been connected to the art world, not only in painting but also in other forms such as dance, theatre, piano or singing. Her work has been part of many exhibitions in galleries and cultural centres in Argentina and in cities outside her native country, such as New York, Madrid and Punta del Este.
