The Bijouterie Series
The Bijouterie Series explores the relationship between adornment, identity, desire, and perceived value. Jewelry appears not simply as an accessory, but as a visual language through which people construct and project an image of themselves.
Gela Mikava transforms rings, earrings, stones, and ornamental forms into expressive pictorial elements. Their exaggerated scale and presence move them beyond conventional representations of luxury, creating a tension between attraction and excess, intimacy and display.
The series reflects on the human desire to decorate, possess, and preserve symbols of value. Beneath the surface of beauty lies a more ambiguous question: what do the objects we choose to wear say about who we believe ourselves to be?
Through color, gesture, texture, and fragmented forms, Mikava treats jewelry as both image and metaphor — an object of desire that simultaneously reveals and conceals identity.
