Collection: Beyond the Visible: Symbolic Paintings by Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

A landscape can hold a memory. A human figure can suggest a dream. Birds, flowers, water, and the changing seasons can become the starting points for a story that remains open to interpretation.

Beyond the Visible brings together symbolic and imaginative paintings by Ukrainian artist Aleksandr Dubrovskyy. This collection explores a dimension of my work in which observed nature meets personal reflection, poetic narrative, and the inner world of the imagination.

My approach grows from the same attention to color, light, and atmosphere that informs my landscape painting. Here, these elements also help create a psychological setting. A familiar scene may acquire an unexpected stillness, a figure may seem suspended between waking and dreaming, or a meeting within a landscape may suggest a relationship without explaining it.

NATURE AS AN EXPRESSIVE LANGUAGE

Nature provides both the setting and much of the imagery in these paintings. Trees, branches, blossoms, rivers, and skies shape the space around figures and animals. Their rhythms, colors, and textures contribute to the emotional character of each composition.

The seasons offer different possibilities. Winter opens spaces between bare branches and brings subtle contrasts into focus. Summer creates denser surroundings, where flowers, foliage, and color can gather around a figure. Water introduces reflections and movement, allowing the landscape to change within its own image.

These natural elements do not carry a fixed meaning throughout the collection. Their significance develops through the particular relationships within each painting.

FIGURES, BIRDS, AND POETIC NARRATIVE

The human figure introduces another kind of presence into the natural world. A gesture, the inclination of a head, or the position of a hand can suggest a state of mind without turning the painting into a fully explained story.

Birds and other living creatures also draw attention to relationships within a scene. Their placement, direction, and distance from one another can create a quiet narrative. The viewer encounters a moment and is free to imagine what came before it or what might follow.

I am interested in this space between what is shown and what is felt. The visible subject gives the painting its form, while color, composition, and atmosphere leave room for personal associations.

COLOR, TEXTURE, AND IMAGINATION

My impressionistic sensitivity to color remains central to these works. Warm and cool tones establish connections across the surface, while changes in brushwork distinguish figures, vegetation, water, and distant space.

Texture can make a scene feel immediate and tangible, even when its atmosphere suggests a dream. Elsewhere, softer transitions allow forms to merge with their surroundings. The balance between clarity and suggestion helps shape the experience of each painting.

The collection includes different subjects and compositional approaches, united by an interest in imagery that extends beyond straightforward description. History, folklore, memory, and imagination are sources of inspiration within this broader direction of my artistic practice.

AN OPEN ENCOUNTER WITH THE PAINTING

These works invite a slower kind of looking. Their stories are not always resolved, and their images need not lead every viewer toward the same interpretation. A detail may recall a place, a season, a feeling, or an experience that belongs to the person looking.

For me, symbolic painting offers a way to connect the visible world with thoughts and emotions that are harder to put into words. Beyond the Visible presents this continuing exploration through color, atmosphere, and poetic imagery.
