Winter Love Story: Two Swans in Winter

Two swans face one another on a winding stretch of green-blue water, surrounded by snow-covered banks and delicate winter branches. Winter Love Story: Two Swans in Winter is an original oil painting on canvas by Ukrainian artist Aleksandr Dubrovskyy, measuring 60 cm wide by 50 cm high.

In this winter landscape, I place the birds within a sheltered opening between the snowy banks. Their raised wings and curved necks create contrasting gestures, while circular ripples carry their movement across the water. The river leads the eye from the foreground toward a quieter passage among the trees.

The snow is painted in shades of lavender, pale blue, pink, and cream. Warm touches of yellow bring light to the banks and the swans’ feathers, contrasting with the deeper turquoise and green of the river. Fine branches frame the scene, and a small house appears through the trees in the upper right.

Visible, varied brushstrokes distinguish the flowing water from the soft snow and intricate vegetation. My impressionistic approach gives the winter scene a richness of color that becomes more apparent as the eye moves across the canvas.

The title introduces a romantic reading of the encounter. The two swans become the emotional center of the landscape, suggesting closeness and tenderness within the stillness of winter.
