Summer Dream

A woman rests with her eyes closed among red poppies, white daisies, and tall meadow grasses. Summer Dream is an original figurative oil painting on canvas by Ukrainian artist Aleksandr Dubrovskyy, measuring 57 × 57 cm.

The reclining figure forms a gentle diagonal within the square composition. Her head rests against one hand, while the other arm curves through the flowers in the foreground. Blue and violet fabric surrounds her body and frames her face, its folds echoing the colors scattered throughout the meadow.

I contrast the softly modeled face and arms with the lively, broken brushwork of the vegetation. Slender green stems cross in front of the figure, bringing her into the same space as the flowers. Red poppies punctuate the cool greens and blues, while the white daisies introduce small points of light across the canvas.

There is no distant horizon: the meadow fills the entire painting, enclosing the figure in color and growing forms. This close viewpoint gives the scene an intimate atmosphere, somewhere between an observed moment of rest and an imagined summer vision.

In this work, figurative painting meets an impressionistic treatment of nature. The stillness of the woman and the movement of the surrounding brushstrokes create a quiet contrast, allowing the dreamlike mood to emerge through posture, color, and rhythm.
