Collection: Emerald Air: Bali Landscapes and Seascapes by Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

The coast of Bali brings together contrasting rhythms: the repeated lines of incoming waves, the irregular contours of cliffs, and the dense growth of tropical vegetation. Emerald Air gathers original oil paintings on canvas by Ukrainian artist Aleksandr Dubrovskyy, created during his painting period in Bali, Indonesia.

In this collection, I explore the island through its coastal landscapes, ocean views, and abundant greenery. The meeting of land and water provides a starting point for paintings in which light, color, and atmosphere shape the experience of a place.

THE COAST AS A CHANGING COMPOSITION

A shoreline offers many ways to organize a painting. Seen from above, the surf becomes a sequence of pale curves moving across turquoise water. Cliffs introduce vertical forms, while beaches and exposed rocks create warmer passages between the sea and the vegetation.

I am interested in how these elements lead the eye through the landscape. A headland can draw attention toward the distance; a line of foam can bring it back toward the foreground. The coast remains recognizable while its shapes also form an independent rhythm across the canvas.

TROPICAL LIGHT AND OCEAN COLOR

The sea is a field of changing color. Blue deepens toward the horizon, turquoise gathers near the shore, and green reflections connect the water with the surrounding land. White and lavender touches describe the surf, while warmer notes appear where shallow water meets sand and rock.

The sky contributes to the character of each view. Clearer light sharpens the contrasts between cliffs and water. Softer, clouded light brings the colors closer together and allows the distance to become more gradual.

Across these Bali paintings, I explore these shifts through relationships between warm and cool tones, bright passages, and quieter areas of color.

GREENERY, FLOWERS, AND THE ISLAND LANDSCAPE

Tropical vegetation gives the land its own movement. Palm fronds, branching trees, flowering plants, and overlapping leaves create varied silhouettes against the sky and sea. Their density offers a counterpoint to the open water.

Within the greens, I look for differences in temperature and light: yellow-green passages, cooler blue shadows, and small touches of other colors among the leaves. Flowering frangipani adds another scale of observation, bringing attention from the breadth of the coast to individual branches and blossoms.

These landscapes connect close details with expansive views. The viewer may first notice a tree or a sunlit slope, then follow the composition toward the ocean beyond.

OIL PAINTING AND IMPRESSIONISTIC BRUSHWORK

Oil on canvas allows me to distinguish the textures of water, rock, foliage, and cloud through the handling of paint. Longer strokes can follow the movement of a wave; shorter, broken touches can describe leaves or the uneven surface of a cliff.

My approach is connected to lyrical impressionism. Visible brushwork preserves the energy of painting, while the relationships between colors hold the scene together. The aim is to convey both the structure of the landscape and the atmosphere that gives it a particular presence.

Emerald Air forms part of my broader exploration of nature through travel and painting. The collection presents Bali as a place of coastal light, layered greens, and continuous movement between land, ocean, and sky.
