Frangipani in Bloom

Frangipani in Bloom is an original oil painting on canvas from Emerald Air, Aleksandr Dubrovskyy’s small collection of Bali landscapes and seascapes. Measuring 60 × 60 cm, this work presents the island through a flowering coastal hillside, where dense tropical greenery opens onto turquoise water and distant headlands.

A flowering frangipani tree rises in the upper left, its branching silhouette and small white blossoms set against a pale sky. Palm leaves and overlapping vegetation fill the slope below. Glimpses of rooftops and architectural details appear among the plants, adding a human presence without interrupting the landscape’s natural rhythms.

I build the foreground through varied touches of yellow-green, emerald, and cooler blue-green. Small accents of pink, orange, and white suggest flowers scattered through the foliage. Beyond this richly worked surface, the ocean unfolds in broader passages of turquoise, pale blue, and lavender, crossed by long lines of surf.

The square composition balances the density of the hillside with the openness of sea and sky. Soft gray-violet clouds temper the brightness of the greens, giving the coastal view a gentle, luminous atmosphere.

For collectors, the painting offers a unique original connected to a specific period of my artistic journey. Its place within the small Emerald Air collection gives it a distinct context: a focused exploration of Bali’s vegetation, coastal light, and ocean views.

Through impressionistic brushwork, I bring together the close detail of flowering branches and the expansive space beyond the shore.
