Incoming Tide - Painting by Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

Incoming Tide belongs to Emerald Air, a small, distinctive collection of paintings from Aleksandr Dubrovskyy’s Bali painting period. This original oil on canvas, measuring 60 cm wide by 70 cm high, captures the meeting of turquoise ocean water, sunlit cliffs, and tropical greenery along the island’s coast.

The painting offers collectors an opportunity to acquire a unique original from a specific chapter of the Ukrainian artist’s career. Its individuality lies in the composition, the visible brushwork, and the relationships of color developed across the canvas.

Viewed from above, successive waves curve toward a rocky shoreline. White and pale lavender foam traces the movement of the water, leading the eye from the foreground toward the open blue horizon. Along the right side, steep cliffs rise in passages of gold, ochre, rose, and violet, interrupted by vivid green vegetation.

I explore the contrast between the flowing rhythms of the ocean and the angular structure of the coast. Broad bands of water meet broken rock formations, small pools, and sunlit sand. The vertical format allows the shoreline to unfold through the painting, connecting close details with the distant sea and clouds.

My impressionistic brushwork gives different textures to the surf, the cliff faces, and the vegetation. Cool blues and turquoise intensify the warmth of the rocks, while touches of violet connect shadows on land with colors in the water.

As part of the small Emerald Air collection, Incoming Tide presents a focused aspect of my lifelong engagement with landscape painting: the coastal light, atmosphere, and color encountered during my time in Bali.
