La pintura muestra una formación rocosa muy peculiar conocida como "El Fraile", situada en las cercanías del Roque Nublo, en Gran Canaria.
La roca tiene una silueta vertical que recuerda a la figura de un monje o fraile encapuchado, de pie y en actitud contemplativa. Su perfil resalta claramente contra el cielo claro, y la erosión natural le da un aspecto casi humano. La base se encuentra rodeada de vegetación baja y pequeños pinos canarios, lo que resalta la monumentalidad y soledad de la figura pétrea.
