Artwork details
Ghost Seahorse explores light through the ethereal form of a seahorse suspended between material presence and translucency. Rendered in graphite and charcoal, the artwork creates a dramatic interplay between darkness and the surface light filtering through the crystalline body.
The ghost seahorse is one of the ocean’s most elusive inhabitants. Living among seagrass and coral habitats in the tropical Indo-Pacific, its delicate, semi-translucent body scatters and absorbs light in ways that make it almost disappear into its environment—a natural reminder that visibility is often shaped as much by light as by form.
The monochrome drawing focuses on the behaviour of light. Light can transform an apparently solid object into something almost weightless and immaterial, suspended between the physical and the imagined. Graphite and charcoal become materials for describing not only the seahorse’s intricate form, but the shifting boundaries between surface, depth, transparency and reflection.
