Artwork details
"Like a Goldfish" explores the fragility of happy childhood memories and the way time transforms them into moments that feel almost out of reach. The scene depicts a young girl suspended underwater, facing a goldfish held in a jar—two worlds observing one another, separated by an invisible boundary that evokes the distance between the present and the past. The water serves as a space for contemplation and silence, where time seems to stand still. The goldfish—often associated with transience and the notion of a fleeting memory—becomes a metaphor for those small instances of wonder and happiness that defined childhood, yet tend to fade away amidst the demands and routines of adult life. This piece is part of the series Returning to Childhood (*Volver a la infancia*), a body of work that reflects on nostalgia, the passage of time, and the need to preserve one’s capacity for wonder. Through intimate, symbol-laden imagery, the series invites the viewer to reconnect with those simple moments which, though ephemeral, remain an essential part of who we are.
