Artwork details
Painting inspired by sculpture created by Juan de Mesa. A full-length figure of Christ is shown nailed to a wooden cross against a nearly black background, the body rendered with sharp anatomical detail and warm flesh tones. The head tilts forward beneath dark hair, while a pale draped cloth is tied at the hips and falls in layered folds. Thin streams of blood mark the torso and legs, and the signed composition is built around stark vertical restraint.
