Carolina De Rossi: the shapes of nature

De Rossi works out in delicate strokes the sensations that come from watching nature.

Peruvian painter Carolina De Rossi puts together subjective compositions inspired by her surroundings. She takes the impressions she gathers from nature and turns them into artistic creations through colourful shapes, which become vivid and harmonious at the same time.

She paints the emotions stirred by contemplating the natural world within balanced structures that play with light and movement. Colour becomes the catalyst of those experiences and of nature. Warm colours, pastel tones and transparencies prevail, though she lets herself be carried away by whichever range best reflects her intentions.

Her canvases are landscapes. At dusk or at dawn. Of the sea or of the land. Warm or cold. Of night flowers or space flowers. The shape taken by what she portrays matters less than the message she wants to get across: the essence of the natural elements. In them she finds the shapes of feeling, such as hope, melancholy, strength or passion.

She moves between figurative art and abstraction. The appearances of the natural world take on a delicate aesthetic. And even when she is after the force of breaking waves, her brushstroke holds back the violence. Every layer of her canvases is built up with subtle strokes.

Carolina De Rossi has a broad artistic training. She studied anatomical drawing in Cristina Gálvez's studio, artistic painting at the National School of Fine Arts of Peru and graduated in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence. She has won several prizes in her country and has held numerous solo exhibitions.
