Fantasy comes to life in the artwork of Giuseppe Sticchi. The Italian painter abandons the logical imitation of reality to invent an emotional reading of it. In each of his artworks he opens up a refuge for the senses and creates a very appealing visual content that connects with the viewer straight away.
What Giuseppe Sticchi (Naples, 1961) offers is a dreamed-up world made real, full of colour and optimism, a world that holds on to reality but never lets it get in the way of his creativity. To get there he uses a surrealist approach through which he digs into his own likes and dreams. And so he steeps his canvases in the charm of the impossible.
His compositions unfold around seascapes and coastal scenes. Above all, references to the life and the light of the Mediterranean abound. Out of his views of Italian corners come picturesque villages sheltered inside bottles, shells or vases, sailing boats glide by, and bridges and staircases rise up like doorways for the viewer to step into his inner world.
Giuseppe Sticchi puts together this poetry of the unreal on the back of a personal style, a fine line and a constant experimenting with figurative forms and colours that manage to express states of mind. A lover of strong contrasts, he uses a palette rich in bright tones with which he builds a universe brimming with vitality. The Italian artist also paints impressionist landscapes in which he captures the Mediterranean light and shows us the architecture of his lush surroundings.
Born into a family of artists, Giuseppe Sticchi formed a close bond with painting early on. His work has been shown in 28 solo shows, as well as in numerous group exhibitions.
