Miguel Ángel Casco Arroyo (Puebla, 1991) explores the challenges painting can take on starting from photography. In extremely delicate work, he captivates the viewer through the beauty of the intimate while he studies forms and colours.
This young Mexican artist's work is full of female portraits. Beautiful women laid out before our eyes as if they really took on physical presence when we look at them. He also plays at handing us their souls. Their gazes, their gestures and everything around them promise to reveal the inner workings each personality keeps to itself.
His compositions therefore follow a realist style with which he aims to strip bare the affection human beings generate, through portraiture and the figure. He does it from a subjective viewpoint, from the emotions the artist feels before his object of inspiration, emotions that push him towards one particular pictorial representation.
In each canvas, Miguel Ángel Casco Arroyo also looks to carry out an analysis that lets him get to know new forms and colours starting from photography. To do so, he examines composition and the distortions inherent to the camera lens and, following these parameters, he builds figurative forms through chromatic layering. The result is an X-ray that reveals the iconographic affinities between photography and the painted image. He puts together a very creative reading of the relationship between the two disciplines and their point of coincidence with reality.
Along the same lines, Miguel Ángel Casco Arroyo takes on the study of the human body as landscape, tying it to suggestive references to Mexican mestizaje. What stands out in his technique is the quality of the drawing and the strength with which he handles colour, as well as the corporeality he breathes into his figures.
He earned his degree in Fine Arts at the Universidad de las Américas Puebla, Magna Cum Laude. The Mexican painter has also taken part in numerous exhibitions, both at home and abroad.
