In every artwork of her extensive collection, Olga Armand Ugon expresses herself with absolute freedom, letting shapes and matter develop a spontaneous compositional dialogue that brings out their combined richness.
Her creations revolve around abstraction and expressionism, wrapped in turn in an intense informalist nature. The material becomes the thread of whatever is about to happen. Through both figurative and abstract shapes, the Uruguayan painter experiments with the possibilities of substance and travels with textures, drawing inspiration from the great masters of art, from feelings, from memories, from the human figure,... from whatever catches her attention.
Although she is especially surprising with genuine collages made of papers and fabrics, Olga Armand Ugon handles a wide range of materials such as ashes, sand, brick dust, marble,... And, through an outstanding execution of mixed media, she stamps her personal mark on them and heightens the visual emotion she creates.
Through the deep relationship she establishes with matter, she manages to compose scenes where lines, colour and space finally converse to build a highly suggestive painting. To do so, she puts together an aesthetic that combines the material and expressive qualities of textures to perfection. What she wants to say and how she says it end up forming an inseparable bond that gives each artwork a unique meaning. This is possible thanks to the great importance she gives to the material substrate. So, linking threads, adjusting fibres,... she places the tangible in the spot she goes on deciding, always arriving at a dynamic look.
A fashion designer, Olga Armand Ugon trained with artists of the stature of Clever Lara and Guillermo Fernández. Since 2005 she has exhibited in Uruguay, as well as in Buenos Aires and New York, and has received numerous prizes recognising the quality of her work.
