Sanjay Punekar and the artist's mission

The Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler wrote about the ultimate purpose of art: “The artist's mission is to express the eternal element that exists in nature, namely, beauty”. The emotion stirred by that lyricism also becomes a fundamental reason for the artist to bring his feelings out into the open. So the painter carries onto the canvas his own reading of the many impressions given off by the natural world.

Sanjay Punekar (India, 1979) makes his aesthetic statement about nature an exercise in reflecting on the bond that exists between all its parts. Showing a necessary complementarity through expressionism.

He works from his studio in New Delhi, though he is an international painter. His artwork has crossed the borders of his country and now hangs in as many as 300 private collections. Sanjay Punekar has built a fruitful artistic career and has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

The Indian painter absorbs the energy inherent in natural matter and takes to his paintings the sensitivity it awakens in him. Experimenting with the riches of acrylic and watercolor, he achieves bright, very appealing colors. They set up a strong compositional unity that takes in both figurative and abstract strokes. Color plays with nature, giving form to the life around it. His technical skill lets him finish with luminous touches that radiate a lively optimism.
