Yellow Flowers and Lemons

In Yellow Flowers and Lemons, I bring together a loose bouquet of yellow and violet flowers, a turquoise vase, and lemons resting on yellow fabric. Painted in oil on canvas, this 60 × 50 cm floral still life explores the interplay of warm yellows, fresh greens, and cool blue accents.

The bouquet opens across the upper part of the painting, with stems reaching in different directions. Golden petals and ochre flower centers alternate with violet blossoms, while green leaves connect the flowers to the blue and turquoise shades of the vase.

The vase provides a strong contrast within the predominantly yellow composition. Below it, the lemons echo the colors of the bouquet, their rounded forms balancing the branching stems above. Diagonal folds in the fabric lead the eye across the foreground and back toward the flowers.

My loose, impressionistic brushwork describes petals, foliage, and reflections through changes in color rather than precise outlines. I am drawn to the balance between the fullness of the bouquet, the simple shapes of the fruit, and the surrounding space. Yellow holds the composition together, while violet and turquoise give it depth and rhythm.
