29th edition of the BMW Painting Prize

Under the motto "We share your passion for art", one of the most prestigious prizes on the Spanish art scene is back for another year: the BMW Painting Prize. This 29th edition keeps the awards handed out in previous years, though there are new things on that front, along with plenty of others such as the change of venue for the ceremony, which will be held at the Teatro Real in November and presided over by H.M. Queen Sofía.

With this competition, BMW Group has always set out to promote art and painting in Spain and to discover new talent. That's why, on top of the main category, the BMW Painting Prize with its 25,000€, the 8,000€ of the Mario Antolín Grant for Pictorial Research, awarded to one of the three youngest entrants, and the BMW Youngest Talent Prize, worth 4,000€, open to children between eight and twelve, this year there's a new category. That category is the Innovation Prize, worth 6,000€ and aimed at rewarding creative, innovative artists with a different style, artists who want to keep exploring new techniques and pictorial solutions.

Over these almost thirty years, 20,000 artists have taken part, and in the 2013 edition, won by José Carlos Naranjo from Cádiz, there were 800 entrants from all over Spain, with different styles and nationalities. This year's winner of the BMW Painting Prize, along with the other categories, will be announced in November, and they will be chosen by a jury made up of 11 leading figures from the cultural sector in Spain. After the ceremony comes the traditional charity concert in aid of the Mundo en Armonía foundation, which focuses on humanitarian and development projects for people in need and is chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Irene of Greece.

- Open to painters of any nationality resident in Spain. They must not have won in their category in previous editions and the artwork submitted must not have been entered in another competition.
