Néstor Martínez is a Colombian artist based in the United States who has been painting since the 60s. Today Néstor is the star of the From my studio section.
2. What time of day do you prefer for painting? How much time do you devote to painting?
Any time, in any condition and any place, as long as there's inspiration. I devote all day, every day.
3. Of all the paintings you've made, which is your favourite? Why?
I like the creativity you have to put into a Conceptual painting like El tejido de Penélope, Transportation or Rio Seco.
4. If you could be reincarnated as a master of art, who would you have liked to be?
I don't want to tell lies, there are people with enormous talent and I've never felt the wish to be reincarnated as any artist even if I could, surely because I'm fascinated by illustration, landscape, figurative art, abstract art, conceptual art, portraiture, surrealism...
5. What is or are your sources of inspiration?
Looking at and searching for artworks, I've come to the conclusion that there are artists so talented they can bring a pair of scissors to life, or the transparency of a glass, or a dark room. What I mean by all this is that inspiration is anywhere. But to answer your question a little, music and a beautiful day don't inspire me, but they help.
6. Of all the artistic movements, which one has the greatest influence on your artwork?
Surrealism .
7. What does art mean to you? What role does it play in your life?
Visual art expressed in painting or drawing is my identity, and the role it plays in my life is a very serious one.
