Il confine del fuoco segreto

I built up dark paint until the surface took on the resistance of a stone wall, and then I wounded it to find what remained beneath. Five vertical incisions open in the lower black, letting a burning yellow push through from below like a fire forced to breathe through narrow cracks. A sharp diagonal line separates this wounded zone from a smooth, silent, matte field above. On that boundary sits a tiny construction with a thin wisp of smoke, exposed to the vastness of the space. I am interested in the coexistence of that contained heat and the cold of the upper field: a painting that can suggest refuge, isolation or resistance without being closed into any of those readings.
