What the Night Left Burning
Artwork details
I worked the darkness here as a material that gathers weight and resistance. Layers of paint, dragged and scraped with the palette knife, keep the history of their own transformation: Prussian blue, black and dirty browns pressing down like a contained storm. A single horizontal incision interrupts that density and holds a small block of turquoise and red. I was looking for a vibration that could cut through the cold field, but it was the painting itself that let this unexpected warmth appear. Below, the surface crumbles into an ashen, reddish ground where a glow seems to beat beneath the crust. Looking at it again, I find a territory that is still burning under its apparent stillness, without needing to resolve the secret of that light.
