BLUE I

AZUL I is part of Rafa Torregrosa's painting series El misterio de los colores (The Mystery of Colours).

In this painting, blue takes centre stage as the fundamental element of the composition. Variations in colour, the movement of paint and the textures of the canvas create a surface in which colour becomes the primary means of expression.

The composition invites viewers to explore the relationships between different shades, material and the forms that emerge during the painting process.

One distinctive feature of his work is the use of large sheets of raw cotton canvas, without stretcher frames. The flexibility of the fabric allows folds, wrinkles and raised textures to develop. These irregularities can be deliberately incorporated into the composition through colour, turning the canvas itself into an active element of the painting. The surface is therefore no longer necessarily a uniform plane, but acquires a physical and textural dimension.
