ENCUENTRO I
Artwork details
ENCUENTRO I is part of Rafa Torregrosa's painting series El misterio de los colores (The Mystery of Colours).
The composition is built around two flowing passages of colour, blue and yellow, which descend across the canvas under the influence of gravity.
Both colours follow their own paths, approaching one another and establishing a visual relationship without actually blending.
The painting explores the encounter between different colours, the movement of paint and the expressive possibilities that emerge from their coexistence.
Gravity plays a fundamental role in the creative process, while the artist's decisions shape the chromatic relationships and the composition.
One distinctive feature of his work is the use of large sheets of raw cotton canvas, without stretcher frames. The flexibility of the fabric allows folds, wrinkles and raised textures to develop. These irregularities can be deliberately incorporated into the composition through colour, turning the canvas itself into an active element of the painting. The surface is therefore no longer necessarily a uniform plane, but acquires a physical and textural dimension.
