YELLOW II
Artwork details
AMARILLO II is part of Rafa Torregrosa's painting series El misterio de los colores (The Mystery of Colours).
Against an expansive yellow background, blue and greenish forms establish relationships of chromatic contrast and balance.
Their irregular outlines introduce movement and create a visual dialogue between the different colours.
The painting explores the coexistence of colours and their ability to create compositions that move between abstraction and figurative suggestion.
One distinctive feature of his work is the use of large sheets of raw cotton canvas, without stretcher frames. The flexibility of the fabric allows folds, wrinkles and raised textures to develop. These irregularities can be deliberately incorporated into the composition through colour, turning the canvas itself into an active element of the painting. The surface is therefore no longer necessarily a uniform plane, but acquires a physical and textural dimension.
