FUEGO I
Artwork details
FUEGO I is part of Rafa Torregrosa's painting series El misterio de los colores (The Mystery of Colours).
Against a dark background of near-black tones, luminous forms in yellow, orange and red emerge, evoking the movement and intensity of fire.
The composition establishes a striking contrast between the chromatic depth of the background and the brightness of the warm colours, which become the painting's focal point.
The work originated as a composition initially dominated by green, which the artist decided to transform during the creative process. The modification of the background and the evolution of the forms gave rise to a new chromatic relationship and an unexpected figurative suggestion.
Through overlapping colours, variations in texture and gestural brushwork, FUEGO I explores the expressive possibilities of the contrast between light and darkness.
The painting reflects the creative freedom that characterises El misterio de los colores, where each composition can evolve and transform during its creation.
One distinctive feature of his work is the use of large sheets of raw cotton canvas, without stretcher frames. The flexibility of the fabric allows folds, wrinkles and raised textures to develop. These irregularities can be deliberately incorporated into the composition through colour, turning the canvas itself into an active element of the painting. The surface is therefore no longer necessarily a uniform plane, but acquires a physical and textural dimension.
