The 20th century brought with it a new generation of artists and the recognition of others who had already built a career. We take a look at some of the great Spanish prospects and review the case of two living artists to keep an eye on, whose international exhibitions have delighted thousands of art lovers all over the world.

Lita Cabellut. Nacida en 1961, la artista de origen gitano destacó por su etnia durante sus primeros años de carrera, demostrando con el paso de los años que es una de las grandes pintoras vivas que existen. Recibió el Premio de Cultura Gitana y Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Gitana y en 2015 se la incluyó en la Artprice, catalogándola como una de las mejores artistas vivas en la actualidad.

Her artwork: Cabellut is famous for her brushwork and her use of pigment to disfigure faces and achieve very intuitive effects. Influenced by Francis Bacon, as she herself has said, she has paid tribute to the great female legends of the 20th century in her paintings. That's the case with the collections Frida, The Black Pearl and Coco, The Testimony of Black and White.

Marlene Dumas. This South African painter is another of the living artists you can't forget. Her fearless and at times post-surrealist style of painting makes her one of the most profitable artists currently living in Amsterdam. She won the Schock Prize in 2011 and has exhibited in New York and at the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), among other places.

Her artwork: Where she comes from influenced her enormously, to the point that it's no surprise her artworks deal with subjects tied to sexual and racial identity, with particular emphasis on showing the human body both physically and psychologically. As she herself said: "I wouldn't put one of my paintings in my living room". Her paintings stir unease in the viewer and that's exactly what makes her so great.

Vicky Uslé. Nacida en Santander en 1981, Uslé es una artista precoz que expuso por primera vez en 2009 con 28 años y que, en la actualidad, posee en su haber los galardones Premio Casa Velázquez de Tentaciones de Feria Estampa 2009 y ha conseguido la Beca de Producción de Artes Plásticas de la Comunidad de Madrid en 2010.

Almudena Lobera: Trained in Germany and Brazil, among other places, Almudena Lobera is a promising 32-year-old painter born in Madrid who's worth keeping an eye on in 2017. She has also been part of art residencies in Madrid.

Her artwork: She has exhibited in several galleries in Madrid and, internationally, her London exhibition "Reflection-Reflexion" stands out.

Gema López González: Born in Lugo, Gema López González already has a long career in the arts behind her despite being only 29. She won her first prize in a painting competition in 2006 and since then her work has received numerous mentions. She has exhibited mainly in her home city, in Pontevedra, Santiago de Compostela and Madrid.
