Art exhibitions

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (Spain) runs the exhibition The Inverted Mirror, a selection of works from Fundación "La Caixa" and the MACBA museum. This survey of art from the late 1940s to the present includes painting, sculpture, photography, and video and is organized into six thematic sections.

The National Gallery of Art (Washington, USA) hosts, until May 6, 2012, the show Picasso's Drawings, 1890-1921: Reinventing Tradition. The exhibition is co-organized with The Frick Collection, New York.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (Spain) hosts an exhibition devoted to the Centre Internacional de Fotografia Barcelona, CIFB. The CIFB was a short-lived experiment in the process of institutionalisation of photographic culture during Spain's democratic Transition. The current study of this experiment, little known and almost forgotten despite its nearness in time and space, should be understood from a double perspective: local and global.

On 28th January 2012 the Museum of Modern Art ARKEN, (Denmark) opens the doors to the exhibition The essence of colour. The Art of Queen Margrethe II. This is the biggest exhibition hitherto of the Queen’s art, where the public can follow her artistic development over the past 35 years. Over 130 acrylic paintings, water-colours and découpages are presented  -including a series of brand new works that have never before been shown to the public.

Hajj: journey to the heart of Islam is the first major exhibition dedicated to the Hajj; the pilgrimage to Mecca (Makkah) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is central to the Muslim faith. The exhibition, organized by the British Museum (London, United Kingdom) examines the significance of the Hajj as one of the Five Pillars of Islam, exploring its importance for Muslims and looking at how this spiritual journey has evolved throughout history.
