The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga presents "Retratos y vegetación", the first exhibition in Spain of Luc Tuymans, which showcases 16 oil paintings of different formats. Watery brushstrokes ("Soldier", 1999), blurred lines ("The Rumour", 2001) and muted colors ("Singing Flowers", 2008) are the main characteristics of the work of this European artist.
Tuymans has inherited the long tradition of Northern European painting, hence the Flemish painter Jan Van Eyck is one of its most admired artists. So are Spanish painters as Velazquez, El Greco and Zurbaran, whose influences are seen in many of his works. The work of this artist is found in museums and art centers as the MoMA in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the George Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco.
"Retratos y Vegetación" is organized in collaboration with the Delegation of Flanders and can be visited until September 4.
