The Fundación Joan Miró, in collaboration with ArtAids, presents the exhibition You are not alone, which intends to invite to reflection on the discrimination that, even today, suffer AIDS patients.
In You are not alone, 14 contemporary artists from around the world contribute to the fight against discrimination with an innovative look into the cause, consequences and the current context of AIDS.
The exhibition presents the view on AIDS from the perspective of different countries in various continents, which suffer the disease with diverse intensity.
The Foundation ArtAids has produced works of nine international artists who normally do not address the issue of AIDS. The selected artists are: Deimantas Narkeviius (Lithuania), Latifa Echakhck (Morocco), Danh Vo (Denmark / Vietnam), Christodoulos Panayiotou (Cyprus), Lorena Zilleruelo (Chile), Lucy + Jorge Orta (UK and Argentina), Antoni Miralda (Spain) and Elmgreen & Dragset (Denmark and Norway).
At the end of the exhibition, visitors can see the work of Matthew Darbyshire (United Kingdom), who has conceived a space for reflection on AIDS. The room reminds how the issue was treated during the eighties and nineties by artists such as Group Material and the advertising campaigns to combat HIV at that time.
