TEA Tenerife Art Space hosts a retrospective of the artist Peter Garhel (1952-2005), the first organized in his native island which can be visited until October 23. The retrospective showcases Garhel’s legacy, who was the creator of multimedia and performance art and in Spain and founder, along with Rosa Galindo, of Espacio P, a laboratory dedicated to researching and disseminating creation within the new media and which became a centre of reference in Madrid during the eighties.
With a multidisciplinary nature, this show has the audiovisual work as the main actor through a selection of video installations, multimedia works and audiovisual documentation in places like the Plaza de Colon and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, The Dana Foundation in Paris (France), Documenta in Kassel (Germany) or the International Festival Ars Electronica in Linz (Austria).
The retrospective also presents a selection of his live concerts with Rosa Galindo and his multimedia group Depósito Dental. Drawings, photographs and eyewitness reports made by the Garhel or by eyewitnesses of his time are also displayed.
The exhibition is a co-production between the Art Centre la Regenta and the Atlantic Centre of Modern Art (CAAM) in the framework of the Septenio programme.
